intermediate shelters covering 17
villages.
Objectives: Mitigation and
rehabilitation of degraded coastal,
urban and rural environment of
tsunami-affected communities of
Andaman and Nicobar Islands through
integrated management of natural and
non-biodegradable waste resources.
Activities: Environmental care
awareness, salt water intrusion
protection, environmental cleanup
related livelihood and backyard
agro-forestry promotion.
Expected Outcomes: Students and
teachers have improved understanding
of environmental issues, and the
means to practice methods of
improving school and home
environment, households are
maintaining and protecting their
landholdings and public properties
against
seawater intrusion through water sluice gates and greening
initiatives, households are simultaneously doing
environmental clean-up and utilizing organic and non-organic
wastes/debris for earning livelihoods, households are
engaged in backyard agro-forestation to support livelihood.
